These sarees are worn as bridal & special occasion sarees by most women in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka & Andhra Pradesh. It has been recognized as a Geographical indication (GI) by the Government of India in 2005–2006. The sarees are woven from pure mulberry silk thread and tested zari.
