Derived from the words ‘kalam’ meaning pen and ‘kari’ meaning work, it is a distinctive style of hand painted motifs. There are two distinctive styles of Kalamkari art in India – Srikalahasti style which is produced in Srikalahasti of Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh and the Machilipatnam style which is produced at Pedana a nearby town of Machilipatnam in Krishna district Andhra Pradesh.
